JANUARY>>
Auchenflower, Tuesday
January 29 2002, 9.02pm
A man observed a fast moving
white/yellow light to the east, moving west to east. It had an
oval shape and moved horizontally along its long axis at about
the apparent height of high rise buildings in Brisbane city a
few km away. It was seen for one second only and then seemed
to switch off because it did not disappear in the distance nor
move behind any obstruction. It was a clear night and no
clouds were in the sky about the object. There was no
associated sound, the brightness, size and shape of the object
were constant, and its outline was slightly fuzzy. The witness
had not seen anything like it before. His wife and son were
with him but could not respond quickly enough to see the
object.
FEBRUARY>>
Glass House Mountains,
February 3 2002, 1.30am
I would like to inform you
of a strange light myself and 2 friends witnessed. At approx
1.30am I was driving home on the Bruce Highway with some
friends and was approximately in the area of the Glass House
mountains, heading north. On the low horizon directly in front
of us a distant orange light which looked like just an
aeroplane was flying east relatively slowly which I only
noticed for a few seconds before it all of a sudden shot off
north out of view at great speed. It appeared to be probably
hovering over some where between Coolum and Noosa and perhaps
inland a bit from the coast before disappearing. It was a very
overcast night so the possibilities of this being a shooting
star is low and shooting stars don't change direction at right
angles! I would love to know if anyone else may have seen this
as well!
Sunshine Coast, February 11
2002, night
Myself and my hubby were looking up
and saw what looked like stars moving very fast. They were
coming from the north [mostly], a few were in the south, but
we saw what must have been 30 or so. They were much too high
for a plane. I also have a sister living here, and my god
children and their mother and my son [6 people in total] all
saw this happening. One looked like it was being chased by
another. The one that was being chased just looked like a
star, and the other was flashing but just could not keep up
with it. They all just looked like stars, very very high and
moving very very fast.
Ipswich, February 14 2002,
4.00am
I work odd hours and was sitting by my pool
looking into the sky almost due north. The town bells rang at
0400 hrs [GMT+10]. The sky was crystal clear. Within 30
seconds of the last bell, I saw a bright white light
travelling towards the north at a speed equalling a light
plane at low altitude. It appeared from amongst the stars and
had a bright centre and undefined edges. Its size was larger
that the brightest star we ever see, maybe twice the size. I
first thought it was a satellite as I have seen many but the
speed was far in excess of the speed I have been used to with
the satellites. Also, the period of the arc during which it
was visible was small, say 15 degrees. It stayed in clear view
for no more than 10 second and faded in intensity while
maintaining the same speed. The angle of observation was
between 45 degree above the horizon minimum and 60 degree
maximum. It came into view from being nothing to full
brightness in about 2 to 3 seconds and its exit from view was
the exact reversal of its arrival.
I live near Amberley Air Force
base [for the last 12 years] and I see hundreds of aircraft
flying both at night and daytime. If it had been a landing
light then there should have been a red on the left side and
green on the right as an absolute minimum. Also it was
travelling away from me. There was no sound.
Richlands, Saturday February
22 2002, 9.50pm
A woman happened to look out a front
window from a darkened room and on the acreage property of a
neighbour across the road to the north she saw what at first
seemed to be the front of a very high truck seen by moonlight.
When she looked closer she saw a giant dome-shaped vehicle
accompanied by four pods that seemed to be scraping things off
the ground as they went, with arm-like appendages. The object
was moving slowly towards her and was only about 30 meters
away at last sighting. She went to another room to turn on an
outside light, and when she looked again the object was gone.
In the moonlight the object looked metallic grey and was about
5 metres wide with the pods extending beyond its own width
being about a meter in size.
Toowong,
February 27 2002, 9.00-9.30pm
A woman reported
seeing two craft in the northeast sky moving at the “speed of light”.
They had a red light on one end and a white light on the other
end. When they moved to the SW both objects plunged off in
different directions. They made no sound and it seemed to her
that one was chasing the other. She observed the objects for
three to four minutes. There was no cloud the sky.
MARCH>>
Manly [QLD], March 1 2002,
daytime
A man was standing in a sports field observing
the sky when he saw a reddish-orange light which was beneath
cloud cover travelling south to North. It appeared from the
south moving towards the airport. It had no flashing lights
and was travelling in a straight line at a consistent speed
similar to that of an aircraft. He observed the object for 2
to 3 minutes. He also reported it as being slightly triangular
in shape and marginally bigger than a plane.
Emerald Friday March 15
2002, 8.00pm
Six witnesses observed an orange light
steadily approaching them and making no sound. 3 flares shot
out and it stopped while one flare came down. Then it moved
southwest and faded. It was first seen in the southeast at an
elevation of 45 to 50 degrees. The witness also reported
seeing a UFO over a big dam in the area [Fairburn Dam] about
10 years ago. He observed it for 10 minutes. When he was a kid
[30 to 35 years ago] he saw a saucer nest on a golf course
which was about 20 feet in diameter. There was a circular
depression in the reeds and the top of the grass was
flattened.
One of the
other witnesses called in with her version of events. She
stated that an orange light was travelling west going slowly
in the direction of Fairburn Dam. It was going across the sky,
lower than a satellite, higher than a plane, and round in
shape. It was travelling across the sky getting lower. She was
looking south to begin and looking SW when she lost sight of
the object. She estimated it was about 60 degrees above the
horizon and 3 times bigger than a star. She also observed
there were a lot of shooting stars that night.
West End, Monday March 26
2002, 10.00pm
A band was practicing in Montague Rd
when they saw an object with 4 lights on it in the NW sky.
There was a blue light on the bottom going round while the
object moved slowly. It then sped up and moved to the SW. It
passed near overhead at 45 degrees elevation and about 50
metres away. It looked metallic and it’s actual size was
uncertain. The panels on the side of the object were tinted
blue and the rest was black. Some parts of it were lit up by a
subtle light. The entire object was turning at 5 to 10 second
revolutions. It seemed to have come off the ground a block
from the river.
Redcliffe, Friday March 29
2002, evening
We received 4 reports of 2 circles of
light spinning in one direction and then the other, appearing
to dance in the sky. Further enquiries have revealed it is
highly likely this was a laser light show commemorating Good
Friday.
Esk,
Saturday March 30 2002, 9.00pm
A large orange light
was observed by a security guard while he was on patrol. He
was shining his torch while inspecting a building when he saw
it and froze on the spot. It was travelling from Gatton to
Fernvale and then disappeared into clouds. He watched it for 5
minutes.
APRIL>>
Texas [QLD], Sunday April 7
2002, 7.40pm
A woman was looking north when she saw a
bright white moon-sized light like a search light in the sky.
There were red and green lights flashing on either side of it.
The light moved from north to south and passed overhead. There
was no noise at the time but after it had passed there was a
low droning noise which was heard about 2 minutes later. The
object flashed a searchlight twice. She and her husband and
children observed it for about 5 minutes. She rang Amberley
Air base and was told they had no planes in the sky at the
time.
Guy Fawkes National Park
[NSW], April 3 2002, 3.00pm
A man and his girlfriend
were camping in a National Park outside Coffs Harbour at 13oo
metres above sea level when they observed a green fireball.
Then about 1 ½ hours after sunset but while there was still a
faint glow in the sky, they observed a grey halo shape moving
from the western horizon to the eastern horizon taking 3
minutes to do so. This was followed by a second one that was
not geometrically perfect and a third one like an aurora. Then
bands of grey light appeared that were 4 to 5 degrees thick
and took up about 50 degrees space in the sky. After this a
UFO appeared as a red light doing acrobatic movements and
appeared to be putting on a display to either attract or
distract attention. It was observed for one minute then
disappeared. It was obvious to both people that this was not a
plane. Soon after a plane flew very slowly overhead.
Brisbane area, Tuesday April
14 2002, 8.30pm
A man was walking his dog when he
observed a light yellow light travelling from south to north
and reasonably faster than a plane. It was 10 times the size
of a star and made no noise. He watched it for 10 seconds
before it shot off arcing into the sky.
Bundaberg, Wednesday April
17 2002
A man found 3 circles on the ground of a
property he bought in Bundaberg. They were perfectly round and
beside each other and appeared in grass. The circles
eventually grew out. Soon after he awoke with unexplained
bumps on his face under one of his eyes. When he got up they
disappeared. On the same property he also found a circle on
the bottom of a creek. The water was perfectly clear, about 2
feet deep with a slight tinge of orange to it. It was 3 feet
in diameter.
Another incident occurred one
and a half years ago when whilst standing behind the property
shed he saw a big green light, described as the same green as
a traffic light. It was the size of a car and only 10 metres
above his head. It moved at about 4kms/hr, down the driveway
and disappeared. His twin brother was also a witness to this
incident. His mother has also seen a UFO at Mt Mee which
appeared as a light that came straight for her.
Keperra, Friday April 19
2002, 7.00pm
A string of 6 to 8 dim lights were seen
in the Northern sky. They were slightly undulated, equally
spaced like a string of pearls with a slight curvature and
travelling at a high angle. There was no noise and they
appeared to come down. This incident was observed by a man and
his wife.
Brisbane Airport, Wednesday
April 17 2002, 9.30pm
A man was standing at the ocean
end of the runway waiting for his girlfriend to arrive when he
observed a yellowy-orange ball-shaped object travelling at a
high altitude towards the refinery. It made was no noise as it
travelled from SW to NE. Along the way it made bizarre
directional changes of sharp turns. The witness described it
as smaller than a plane headlight, about the size of his thumb
nail at arm’s length. When it was over the airport it appeared
to slow down.
Brighton, Thursday April 25
2002, 8.00am A young boy reported seeing a flat
disc-shaped light grey circle in the sky. It made a noise like
a strong fizz.
MAY>>
Capalaba,
Wednesday May 15 2002, twilight
A witness reported
seeing something that looked like a star moving southwest to
northeast at an
elevation of 70 degrees. It seemed far away as it travelled
straight. There was no noise or any flashing, and moved away
faster than a plane then disappeared. The witness later saw a
plane and noted the differences between it and what was
previously observed.
Moorooka, Thursday May 15
2002, evening
A man observed something like a bright
star moving in a straight line at about 15,000 feet high. It
travelled across the sky in about 8 to 9 seconds then faded
out until it was too far away to see. The following night he
saw a plane and knew what he had seen was nothing like a
plane. He had also had a very close sighting in New Zealand.
He described it as a black plane hovering overhead at about 2
lamp posts height. He never heard it approach or knew it was
there until he looked up and caught a glimpse of it. He said
it looked like one of our planes but a lot sleeker. He tried
to look in through the cockpit and stood up and as he did it
disappeared and all he could hear was the sound of it 3 to
4kms away out to sea. It was so fast he never saw it leave.
Townsville, Sunday May 19
2002, 12.50am
A woman reported seeing a grey,
boomerang-shaped object moving silently and not as fast as a
plane. There were no lights on it and it made no noise. It was
travelling at the speed of an ultra-light and in a straight
line. She thought it might have been a hang-glider but it was
going too fast. She said she could see the structure of the
object and even the welding [I think she meant the seams of
its structure?] When asked how she saw this object in the sky
at 12.50am she replied it was a very light night.
Broadbeach, Gold Coast
Sunday May 19 2002, 8.30pm
Four witnesses were in a
two-story building looking east over the ocean when they saw a
shooting star. One minute later they observed an off-white
sphere moving rapidly towards the south to join two others. It
had a glow on one side and was about one tenth the size of the
moon. The objects joined in formation at an elevation of 5
degrees. The objects were seen for 15 to 20 seconds. They were
too fast to be satellites.
Westlake, Brisbane Thursday
May 23 2002, 4.44pm
A woman was driving along
Arrabri Avenue and saw a bright light in the Western sky. It
was bright like light reflecting off a mirror. She described
it as being "like a star with petally bits off it". She
thought it was too early to be a star. As she came around the
curve in the road it disappeared. The sky was cloudless.
Mt Coot-tha, Brisbane
Thursday May 23 2002, evening
A man was looking from
Kelvin Grove towards the west over Mt Coot-tha when he saw a
light bigger than the brightest star in the night sky. It was
sometimes, stationery and at other times it would move up and
down fast. It was about six times the size of the red light on
top of Mt Coot-tha [TV tower]. The previous night he had
observed two objects in the same area doing the same thing.
JUNE>>
Moggill, Brisbane Thursday
June 6 2002, 10.15pm
A man and his wife were sitting
watching TV when they heard what sounded like the sonic boom
of a meteorite. The dog started barking and the wife went
outside to see what was happening. The husband went outside
too and reported seeing 6 lights travelling in pairs across
the south west sky. By the time he joined her a couple of
lights in the sky had already gone past. His first reaction
was he thought they were flares. They were yellow with a
pinkish tinge and spherical in shape. They were travelling
horizontally at a 45 degree angle. They turned towards the
east and seemed to accelerate. They made absolutely no noise,
were smaller than a large aircraft’s landing light and about
10kms away. The male witness rang the RAAF base at Amberley,
Archerfield air field and Air Services Australia. They all
reported nothing on radar. [see 14.6.02** for more reports
from the same witness]
Ipswich, Friday June 14
2002, 9.30-9.45pm
A woman was in the bathroom when she
saw lights out the window. She alerted her brother, mother and
sister-in law who all went outside to have a look. They
reported 15 red lights travelling slowly from the South, about
the speed of an aircraft, in the Eastern sky close together.
When they were over Brisbane city, they also saw another bunch
of approximately 60 to 80 lights behind them out over the
ocean. One of the red lights in the group close to them fired
something over the western suburbs down towards the ground.
Two seconds after it shot, a booming noise could be heard
followed by an airwave. An F1-11 came over the top of their
house, appearing to come from the Amberley air base, and when
it got close to the group of lights they shot off to the north
east. The lights were observed for approximately 2 to 3
minutes in total.
Bulimba, Friday June 14
2002, 10.15pm
The witness was looking south-west from
his bedroom window when he saw an intense bright white light.
It travelled through to the east as he watched it for 10
minutes. He also saw two lights well spaced and a bright blue
flash in the west.
Sinnamon Park, Brisbane
Friday June 14 2002, 10.00pm
A woman reported seeing 12
stationery red lights in the sky travelling towards Ipswich.
She went to get a camera. About 6 of the lights spread out and
went to a higher level. There were 2 witnesses.
Moggill, Brisbane, Friday
June 14 2002, 9.45pm
This witness had reported seeing
lights in the sky the previous Friday night. He was now
reporting seeing the same lights travelling south-west to
east. These lights were very bright and bigger than Venus.
Their apparent size at arm’s length was 3-5 mms when they were
close. They passed across the sky then accelerated east until
they disappeared. He heard the same explosive noise more from
the west.
Ipswich, Saturday June 15
2002, 9.58pm
A previous caller [see 14.6.02] reported
seeing 5 more red lights in the eastern sky. They looked the
same as he had previously seen and one of them again fired a
red trail like a rocket towards the ground. This time it took
8 seconds for the blast noise to get to him. He watched the
lights for 5 minutes. He thought the things being fired on the
ground were markers of some sort possibly being set up for
triangulation purposes. He also predicted there would be
another sighting the following night with an object firing
something to the ground completing the three markers needed
for triangulation.
Eight Mile Plains, Brisbane
Saturday June 15 2002, 10.00-10.30pm
Four women sitting
outside observed something like a ball of fire in the sky.
They all exclaimed "What is that?" It was travelling about the
height of a plane, the speed of a plane, about the same size
as a jumbo and made no noise. It disappeared behind trees.
They observed it for one minute as it travelled from the
south-east to the south-west. It appeared to be about 10kms
away from them.
Caboolture, Saturday June 15
2002, 10.00pm
A man saw a bunch of 20 red/pink lights
in the sky and heard 2 bangs. His friend in Ipswich heard the sound too.
Holland Park, Brisbane
Friday June 21 2002, 9.45pm
A woman reported a
sighting on behalf of her daughter. Her daughter and husband
were getting off the bus at Holland Park when they saw the
outline of a V-shaped object hovering at street light level.
It was black, made no noise and about the width of a large
tree. It was possibly lit by the nearby shop light. They
observed it for 6 seconds then it shot off very fast. It made
no noise. The object was not thick or high enough for a man to
stand upright in it.
Mt Isa, June 21-22 2002,
daytime
A man was near the Mt Isa mine when he observed
a slow moving light travel north over Mt Isa township. It
flashed on and off every 8 seconds. It changed direction
towards the south then to the east and began flashing every 16
seconds. It looked white in colour and he watched it in total
for 15 minutes. As he watched a small plane moved overhead. He
stated it was not a plane nor a satellite. There was no noise.
There were two witnesses to this sighting.
Rochedale, Monday June 24
2002
A man observed a star moving erratically. It would
move then stop. He was looking straight up above him. The
object moved from overhead to the horizon in approximately 8
seconds. It was headed towards Moreton Bay [east]. He had
never seen anything move as fast as this.
Sunshine Coast, Saturday
June 29 2002, 2.00am
Two motorcyclists were travelling
on the Freeway from the Sunshine Coast to Brisbane when they
saw something like a shooting star coming into the atmosphere.
It was light blue and shaped like a triangle and travelled
from one horizon to the other in 4 to 5 seconds leaving a bit
of a trail behind it. It was 20 to 30 times the size of a star
and travelled higher than cloud height. They reported they had
seen a shooting star before but this was not the same. They
immediately pulled off to the side of the road but couldn’t
hear anything as they did not turn their bikes off.
Gold Coast, June 2002,
midnight
Three people saw an intense orange light
over Biggera Waters. They got in the car and drove down to the
canal and looked over the water at the object. It kept rising
as they watched it through binoculars. Through binoculars it
looked like a white light covered with orange plastic. The
light went out about three times while they watched it. It
came in from the east, travelled west, then turned southwest.
It was brighter than Venus and was about 20 stars across in
diameter. On another occasion about 3 years ago the caller saw
a triangular-shaped object over Mt Gravatt. He was on the
verandah having a cigarette at about 9.00pm looking southeast when he
saw some movement. And on yet another occasion, he saw
something that looked to him, at first, like a flock of birds.
While he was trying to figure out what birds they were he
realised it was a solid object. He yelled to a friend but by
the time the friend came outside it was fading out. The object
had travelled at the speed of a light aircraft, it was silent
and seemed to have a depth to it.. It appeared to be the size
of a jumbo jet at 1km distance.
JULY>>
Teviot Downs, Friday July 5
2002
A man observed a bright light twice the size of a
star in the southern sky looking over New South Wales. It was
at 20 to 30 degrees elevation above the horizon and appeared
to disturb his dogs who were barking crazily. The object was
witnessed by his wife also. He rang Enoggera, Amberley and
Greenbank military services who all reported nothing on radar.
Chermside, Brisbane Friday
July 5 2002
A woman reported seeing a star with a very
long streaming tail in the southern sky. At times it was
moving slightly and other times it was stationary. It seemed
to just hang in the sky.
Cunnamulla, Wednesday July
10 2002, 8.30pm
A man witnessed an orange light the
size of a star moving slowly across the horizon. At times it
would seem to speed up while bouncing up and down and looked
like it had a bit of a tail. A second white light appeared
doing big circles in the sky. The two lights were within 10km
of each other. The orange light disappeared below the horizon.
Browns Plains, Friday July
12 2002, 10.00-10.30pm
A Scout group along with their
scout master reported seeing 26 orange objects travelling from
a southerly direction going north. They were slow moving and
seemed to be travelling one by one in a straight line. They
were balloon-shaped and glowed orange, seeming to be shaped
like balloons. They were silent with no navigation lights.
There was no wind and the maximum size of the objects was a
quarter of the moon. There were 30 witnesses in total.
Dajarra, Friday July 12
2002, 7.45pm-4.00am
A man reported he has been
witnessing lights in the sky every night since the 27th June.
The lights are usually seen from 7.45pm on and off through to
4.00am. They can be seen singly or in groups of up to six.
They often come down from the sky to just above tree height
then travel horizontally along the countryside seeming to be
looking for something. At times he has seen a beam of light
directed toward the ground shining on the trees. He described
them as being like a disco ball with the top half being white
and the lower half reflecting red, blue and orange lights that
are flickering on and off while spinning around the objects.
He described them as being too bulky to be planes and emitted
no noise. Sometimes he would see them hovering above the
ground and flashing to each other. He has attempted to radio
the security guards at the mine to alert them to the objects
close proximity but each time he has attempted to do this the
lights will become dull as though not wanting to be seen.
There have been reports of cattle on a nearby property being
spooked by the lights to the point of pushing down fences.
Buckingham Downs near
Dajarra, Monday July 15 2002, 10.30-10.45pm
Two
witnesses saw a dull orange light hovering about 1 km away
from them, low down in the sky. It disappeared then reappeared
on the opposite side of the road. When it reappeared it had
changed from a yellowy orange to a red and green colour. Then
it went out again. 15 minutes later they saw a very green
light high in the sky and then it fell vertically down towards
the ground in a matter of seconds, suddenly performing a 90
degree turn and moving horizontally across the countryside and
away from them.
Bundamba/Wivenhoe, Sunday
July 21 2002, 7.00pm
A man was outside putting rubbish
in his bin when he observed 2 red lights moving slowly from
south to west at approximately 60km/hr. The lights appeared
to be low at 500 to 1000 metres high moving in a continuous
steady straight path. His 2 neighbours came out and observed
them too. One of the neighbours saw an outline of a cross. No
sound was heard.
Winton, Monday July 22 2002,
9.10pm
A woman on a cattle property was hanging out the
washing when she noticed a very bright star changing colours
from red, green to orange. It hovered about one third of the
way up in the sky over her dam. It slowly descended down over
15 minutes. She said she thought it was too bright to be Venus
but further questioning revealed it was highly likely it was
Venus.
Karrabin, Thursday July 25
2002, 7.10pm
A 12 year old boy reported something
outside his home like a fireball which was leaving sparks
behind it. He was looking southeast at an elevation of 45 degrees.
The object was approximately half the size of the moon and
circular. It was an orange-red with sparks coming out the back
of it. It was moving fast to the west and got smaller as it
moved. He lost sight of it behind the roof of the house. He
observed the object for 20 seconds and his 10 year old sister
saw it in the southwest for a shorter duration. He rang Amberley RAAF
Base but they told him to phone our organisation.
Between Moree and Narrabri
[NSW], Thursday July 25 2002, 8.00-8.30pm
A man and his
son observed 4 lights in the sky, described as being ‘in a
horizontal line like aeroplane lights’. The lights were
blinking consecutively, were yellow-whitish and appeared to be
2km away. There was no noise heard from them at the time even
though traffic noise could be heard up to 8km in the distance.
The elevation of the objects was 40 degrees and their apparent
size was estimated to be from 3 to 4 inches across to 7 to 8
inches. It was a clear sky. The lights seemed to come closer
while engaged in a regular blinking pattern. They were
observed for a total of 5 to 6 seconds before they suddenly
went out.
Bellingen, NSW Sunday July
28 2002, 6.10pm
The witness reported seeing something
like a satellite flare very brightly while moving across the
sky. At first it was in the west at 60 degrees and passed
nearly overhead to the east. It seemed to speed up and faded
somewhat. It slowed and faded out altogether when he lost
sight of it at 70 degrees elevation in the east. This object
was sighted for 90 seconds. There were 3 witnesses.
Hampton, 30km north
Toowoomba, Monday July 29 2002
The witness reported
seeing an object in the northern sky moving northeast, about 6
inches above the horizon. The witness has been watching this
appear for the last 6 to 8 weeks. It appears to bob up and
down as it moves across the horizon. It’s movement has been
observed by lining it up with a tree in the yard. It was
reported as looking like it was being 'dangled on a string'
AUGUST>>
Westlake, Brisbane Saturday
August 17 2002, 4.20pm
A woman observed something black
high up in the western sky. It was shaped like a maple leaf,
and appeared to have an extra two wings. It made no noise, did
not look like a plane, remained stationery for 10 minutes and
did a ‘flip’. When it flipped it reflected light and she saw a
flash of silver. When it moved it did so smoothly and
eventually went into a cloud. She had never seen anything like
it. She took 2 photos but is doubtful they will show anything.
Browns Plain, Wednesday
August 28 2002, 10.15pm
A man and wife were driving
their car when they reported seeing a round ball of fire that
seemed to have flames like fire coming from it in the sky.
They stopped the car and got out and estimated the object to
be the width of a hang-glider as it moved slowly overhead
about 200 metres high. It was also described as ‘like a bundle
of rags on fire in a ball shape’. They watched it for 3
minutes then left.
Sinnamon Park, Thursday
August 29 2002, 9.00-9.10pm
A woman observed an object
through binoculars in the western sky. It was a bright light
that seemed to have a round shape to it and a lot of windows
could be seen. It was stationery and low in the sky while
fluctuating in brightness. It was observed for a few minutes
then it went down and disappeared. It was a clear sky. There
were 2 witnesses. The caller also had another experience 20
years ago in Sydney, when she heard a noise and the room she
was in turned orange.
Toowoomba, Saturday August
31 2002, 6.55-7.15pm
A woman saw a yellow-red light in
the sky at 40 degrees elevation to the south. It appeared to
be on the ridge and far away. At one stage it did a quick
‘zip’. She was in a car proceeding southwards on a straight
road and had to look away at intervals. As she continued
observing, the light seemed to be much closer. She heard no
noise from the object and saw no flashing navigation light.
She is a flight attendant and takes notice of aircraft in the
sky. The time between the light being far away and then closer
was about a minute. The abrupt sideways motion “zing” happened
in about one second. It was a very clear night. She contacted
Oakey army base and was told that there were no helicopter
movements at that time.
Mt Coolum,
August 2002, 6.15am
A man was out jogging while it was
still dark and was passing the local golf course when he saw
an incredibly black cloud with blue sky on one side. As he
stood looking at this cloud, he saw a satellite. As he watched
the satellite pass overhead, it “blew up” like a small moon
for a few seconds. He phoned because he was still puzzled and
wanted to understand what he had seen. One possible
explanation offered to him was that the satellite might have
had a large flat solar panel or other flat surface which
momentarily reflected the sun straight to his eyes. With the
presently available information about the black cloud we can
not infer that it was other than an unusual natural
phenomenon. Two weeks later while out jogging again, the same
witness observed a black or brown, longish, oblong object
moving south to north, shooting out a dull red shaft of light forwards
every second or two. As he watched, the object stopped, turned
and continued on to the east over the ocean. He lost it in the
morning glow after observing it for about 2 minutes.
SEPTEMBER>>
Springwood, Tuesday
September 3 2002, 6.30pm
The caller reported seeing a
light that went from one side of the horizon to the other in
30 seconds. The light travelled horizontally and made no
noise. It was travelling higher than a plane and then faded
from view.
Cairns, Saturday September 9
2002, 10.00pm
A man reported 3 objects in the
south-west sky approximately 10kms distance from him and about
10 to 15,000 feet high over the Lake Norris area. The three
lights converged into one line of travel and continued in this
pattern for 5 minutes. They then took off in different
directions at a speed no faster than a plane. The objects made
no noise. There were seven witnesses to this incident. The
caller also rang the Cairns Port Authority and was told that
others had reported the sighting too.
Coorparoo,
Saturday September 14
2002, 9.00-9.30pm
A woman was sitting outside a
restaurant on a hillside on Cavendish Road. She was looking
towards the city when she observed a rectangular shaped green
object seemingly "drop out of the sky." It came directly down
to ground and went below her vision so she no longer saw it.
She described it as neon green and glowing with no tail or
sparks coming from it. She described it a travelling about the
speed of a skydiver jumping from a plane.
Kempsey, Saturday September
29 2002
The caller reported seeing a red mushroom
shaped object hovering over trees on his property the last few
nights. The first time he saw it he thought it was a burning
log, until he saw it move. He described it as being approx.15
feet long and bigger and lower than stars. He has reported it
to the police 6 times and they have come out to his property
to take a look but could not find anything. His brother and
the girl in the local supermarket have seen the object in the
area too. He rang the Williamstown Air Base in Newcastle but
they didn’t want to know about it.
OCTOBER>>
Shailer Park, Thursday
October 3 2002, 9.25pm
A 14 year old youth reported
seeing an orange light moving directly overhead to the
south-west. It was at it’s brightest when it was first
observed but dimmed after that, brightening several times
during the sighting. The youth’s mother and two friends
observed the object as well. The mother described it as being
like three balls together and evenly lit up.
Rochedale South, Tuesday
October 14 2002, 11.30pm
A woman walked to the local
shop to buy a packet of cigarettes. She saw a big light coming
in towards the city area and then it stopped. She then noticed
2 other orange glowing lights travel overhead taking approx. 2
minutes to do so. The objects were a bit brighter than a star
and travelling in a straight line. One of the objects seemed
to occasionally wobble. She stated she had seen satellites and
these were not satellites. By this time her son had joined her
and they also spotted 3 other objects in the sky that were
moving in very small circles. She telephoned her mother, a
neighbour and others to look at the objects who all reported
seeing them. The woman has seen unusual objects before.
About twenty
years ago she was with her father in Newcastle when they saw a
plane surrounded by 7 cigar-shaped objects. This incident was
later reported on the news.
On another
occasion 13 years ago in Coffs Harbour, she was coming home
from work at 2.30am when she saw a massive big light burst out
of the ocean and fly straight up into the sky with a burst of
noise.
Dalby, Wednesday October 15
2002, 7.30pm
A woman reported seeing a white shiny
light travelling east to west. When she first observed it, it
was low near the horizon. She only saw it for 2 seconds before
it disappeared in a flash like "warp drive" on Star Trek. She
stated that it would have passed over the range as she
observed it from Dalby looking towards Toowoomba. It covered
lot of sky. This was not her first sighting. A few years ago
she saw a red light in the back yard of her home. It was an
inverted triangular shape grey object like a pyramid. It was
large enough to block out the house behind it and as it did so
it hovered about 3 feet from the ground and about 6 feet away
from her. She raced inside to get her husband who returned
with her to see the object. She described her dogs as going
"mental". The whole experience unnerved her and she didn't go
out after this for quite some time.
Manly, Wednesday October 15
2002, 7.50pm
A man reported seeing a flashing light to
the south moving north. It changed direction moving northwest
and then changed again to the west maintaining the same speed
throughout. The flash rate was about 2 to 3 times/sec and
white, but seemed to flash a red colour now and then. No sound
and moving much faster than plane. The duration of the
sighting was 2 to 3 minutes and it seemed to be very high up.
The object was lost to sight behind the roofs of nearby
houses. He also observed it with binoculars but saw no
additional details.
Rochedale, Wednesday October
15 2002, 1.00am [See previous]
The witness from the
previous evening phoned back and reported seeing the same
orange coloured objects in the sky again. She lined up the
objects with something stable so she could see their motion.
One disappeared and another appeared. One was about 8kms away
to the north then moved southwest. When she rang she had been
watching them for 1 hour.
Fernvale, Tuesday October 22
2002, 8.20pm
A man reported the sighting of an unusual
object, just south of Fernvale near Pine Mountain west of
Brisbane. He saw a dark shadow to his east about 400 m away at
treetop level which moved to the West. It passed over him and
his vehicle at about 50 feet, stopped to his left and
displayed six bright lights on its underside arranged in a
regular pattern. He stopped his vehicle to observe more
closely, and another red vehicle also stopped behind him. An
even brighter light then shone out from the front of the
object brightly illumining the ground beneath it. In the
reflected glow the man then saw a huge box shaped object about
200feet by 100 feet by 30 feet in size. The object then dimmed
again, veered left and shot off to the west. Less than a
minute after the object's departure two jets passed low over
the area in the same general direction as the departing
object. While the two vehicles were stationary, two other
vehicles passed the site and would have seen the brightly
lighted object as well. A copy of this report has been sent to
the local media with a request for the other witnesses to
contact our Association.
Brisbane City, October 25
2002, 1.00pm
Whilst waiting for my wife to alight
from the river ferry at Eagle Street Pier in the city centre
at 13.00 I was looking up at the tall buildings and noticed a
bright white round ball or disc slowly moving from southeast
to northwest. The size of the disc would be approx 2mm at arms
length. There was no cloud when first observed to reflect from
the object. As it passed overhead some very high thin cirrus
cloud passed underneath the object and obscured it slightly.
This high cloud was passing in the opposite direction to the
object. My estimation of the altitude would be between
20,000-30,000 feet. As the object emerged from the
cirrus cloud it appeared to wobble slightly and the surface
went grey and white for about two or three minutes The Sun
was obstructed by the high buildings, but was very close to
the object which did not give the same shadow profile if you
were observing an aircraft. As an aviation enthusiast I am
always looking at aircraft at various altitudes and this did
not fall into any category that I have seen in the past. If it
was a meteorological balloon, I believe it would have looked
different.

MISCELLANEOUS REPORTS RECEIVED IN 2002>>
Mackay, 2001, reported 2002
The
recent incident in Mackay has refreshed my memory. I don't
know about the area being a hot spot but I do know that a lot
of the old timers who have worked in mines all their lives
have seen a lot of strange phenomena. Not just around central
Queensland but also in Western Australia. Everything from Min Min lights to
bright orange balls of light chasing each other in coal pits.
I'm sure there have been others who have seen weird things but
just won't come forward. I have also seen at night three white
lights moving in the shape of a triangle and it was huge. By
the time I tried to stop the vehicle and focus on it, it
seemed to just roll over and disappear. I know for a fact that
that there have been strange sightings in Central Queensland
for a number of years and if I remember correctly some close
encounters with UFOs as well.
I have had a
few rather interesting sightings of UFOs while working at a
coal mine in 1997/98. The mine is called BHP Peak Downs mine
and is located 30km south of the township of Moranbah.
Moranbah itself is located 200kms west of Mackay.
I have always heard of the old
timers talking about Min Min lights and strange lights that
they have seen when working at mines at night over the last
30-40 years but never thought I would see one myself, let
alone two. I work on the blast crew at the mine and we deal
with the blasting of overburden and coal. Due to the type of
work we like to start at 6.00am [the rest of the mine starts
at 7.00am] to avoid the midday sun. It was early one morning
between 6.30 and 6.50am and my offsider, who was driving, and
I were travelling on the northern haulroad to the 12N pit
where we were to do a coal shot. It was autumn at the time so
the Sunday was rising just over the eastern horizon. I was
just casually looking out the window when I noticed something
shinning in the air. This didn't really surprise me because we
can usually see jets flying way off to the east of the mine in
the morning and the Sunday reflects off them. I looked closer
and realised that this "jet" was very close to the mine. I
thought this was strange because we do have smaller planes fly
over the site but this one was very large and silver. The
other fact was that it wasn't moving but seemed to be
hovering. I kept losing site of the saucer-like object behind
the spoil heaps and eventually lost it completely. I said
nothing to anybody about it at the time for fear of looking
like a fool, and also I was thinking of other possibilities.
However the next morning there was a report in the local paper
of a saucer like object that was seen hovering above the
highway at the same time I saw it. It then accelerated
straight up at great speed to disappear from sight. The
highway is approx 300m away to the east of where I was working
and the because of the time of morning it was spotted by about
30-50people driving to work. I have done some calculations and
have speculated that the object was approx 300m in the air,
silver/chrome in colour, roughly the size of a 737, and was
shaped like the saucers from the TV series "V".
If you would
like confirm my sighting you can get in contact with the paper
that published the story. I cannot remember the date exactly.
The paper is The Mackay Daily Mercury and I'm sure they would
have a clipping somewhere. There have been a number of
sightings in Mackay in the last few years that have been
reported by the paper as well.
Crestmead, December 2001
[reported 15.1.02]
A woman reported a sighting she
observed before Christmas, of 13 or 14 disc-shaped orange
lights flying in formation. There was no sound. The witness
also reported that on New Years Eve she hosted a get together
in her home. This time four orange lights were witnessed by
herself and her thirty guests. Again there was no sound. They
came from a north to north east direction. She estimated they
were 3 to 4 times larger than a star. She also stated she had
experiences in her childhood that were UFO related.
Macedonia, 1999, 9pm
[reported August 22 2002]
The witness saw a dot moving
overhead very fast. It appeared to be tracing out a geometric
shape that had the apparent angular size of 45 degrees. The
object ‘switched off’ and disappeared while moving very fast.
1990, [reported February 25
2002]
Incident occurred 12 years ago at 5pm one
afternoon. The witness was a taxi driver at the time,
travelling to Tullamarine Airport. He observed a
boomerang-shaped sky blue metallic object in the sky. He
stopped the taxi and got out to observe it. It was in the
shape of half an egg shell. The taxi driver watched the object
hover for a split second then it took off leaving behind a
small white cloud. He observed the object in total for 1
minute.
The same man
also reported an incident, again 12 years ago, at 3am one
morning which occurred while he was driving his taxi into the
city. He saw something in the sky like a star which changed
colour from white to orange, blue then yellow. It appeared to
block his two way radio which used an FM band. The object came
down to within 100 ft above his taxi and began chasing him. As
it chased him it turned white. It chased him for 12kms
consistently remaining above his taxi.
In a further
report he described picking up a sergeant from the Pt Cook
army air bus as a fare during his taxi driving career, who
advised him not to tell people about the things he sees. The
sergeant told him that pilots always see things in the sky but
don’t tell anyone about it.
Inala, Brisbane 1987
[reported July 26 2002]
A man was driving his car when
he saw 2 green lights in the bush on the side of the road that
seemed to be pacing his car. He stopped the car and approached
the lights on foot. The lights changed to yellow then red. He
quickly got back in the car and took off and the lights
followed him. He went to a party not long after the incident
and heard someone else reporting the same thing happening to
them in the same area. On another occasion 2 years ago he
observed a bright light above tree tops at Rosewood at 2am. He
has also seen 2 silvery cigar-shaped objects when he was
young. He also reported a friend of his driving from Ayres
Rock to Winton when a light came towards him and seemed to
merge into the car headlights. The caller also stated he had
been to the UFO Museum in the USA and met Glen Dennis, the
mortician involved with the Roswell incident.
Buyong, 1980s [reported 23
July 2002]
A woman was taking a photo of her uncle when
they felt a wind vibration a couple of metres over their
heads. The camera was knocked out of her hand and hit her in
the chin. When she had the photos developed a cigar shaped UFO
appeared on one of the photos. She had also had personal
experiences when she was 17 and felt a presence in her room.
On another occasion she and her father saw a pure white,
egg-shaped object through the kitchen window hovering above an
old water tank stand, which was just outside the window. She
described the object as beautiful and gleaming. They watched
it for about 20 to 25 minutes before it disappeared.
Lederger Gorge near Ballarat
[VIC], 1975 [reported August 17 2002]
Late one
afternoon a woman and her son were going to the local shop.
They observed 2 objects in the sky that looked like 44 gallon
drums. They were travelling south to north and parallel. As
they moved the objects wobbled a bit and one of them went off
balance. While this happened the other object remained in
balance and still, until the first object regained it’s
balance, then they took off. She couldn’t estimate how far
away the objects were. It was a lightly clouded day. The
witness also reported another incident where she woke up one
morning about 2 to 3am. She felt like something shook her
awake and she had to get up to be shown something. She put on
her dressing gown and went to the front door. She opened it
and saw a great ribbon of light to the west. In the ribbon of
light were all sorts of ships such as yachts, aircraft
carriers, dinghies, etc. She said the ribbon looked like a
Star Trek tractor beam and was a brilliant pale yellow light.
She was not frightened and went back to bed. The next day she
told her husband but he didn’t believe her and she hadn’t told
anyone since. This lady is an energy healer and once when she
was performing healing on a female friend while sitting on her
chair in the kitchen, she got the impression of her friend
changing into a male being with elongated bright yellow eyes
which she described as lizard eyes. She felt he was very tall
and strong and when she spoke to her friend she found that her
friend’s voice was deeper and guttural.
Rockhampton,
1972/73 [reported September 25 2002]
A man was driving at
dusk when he got a bit tired and pulled over to have a
cigarette. He saw a white light in the Northern sky which
travelled across his line of vision from left to right. It
then did a complete 90 degree turn to the east and disappeared
out of sight behind trees. The whole event happened very fast
and only too about 4 seconds.
50 miles from Mt Isa, 1964
[reported July 16 2002]
A woman reported that back
in 1964 she was living on a property 50 miles from Mt Isa near
the family copper mine. It was evening about 9pm to 10pm and
she, along with 3 other family members [adults] and 2 sleeping
children were sitting around the outdoor fire drinking tea.
The adults attention was drawn to light above them being
emitted from a craft no more than 20 feet overhead. She
described it as having two compartments to it, the top like a
dome and the bottom like a saucer. It hovered for a few
minutes while they continued to watch it. It made very little
noise as her children remained asleep and it was somewhere
between one and two car lengths in diameter. It took off and
appeared to go to ground a few miles away. The family was not
surprised as they were very open to the idea of ETs. When I
asked her how they responded she said they just laughed and
said that's one of those UFOs.
Nalligan near Canberra,
1958/59 [reported Wednesday September 29 2002]
A man
reported that he was sitting around a camp fire with a friend
when they both saw an object come in from the east some
kilometres distance from them. It was about the size of a
dinner plate, round, and seemed to change colour as it slowed.
It hovered in the sky for one minute before taking off due
north at an incredible speed. The witness reported that it
appeared as a thin line while it was still. The caller
recalled that he and his friend never spoke about the incident
after it occurred.
